Yamaha Is Where It’s @
With ever-increasing broadband speeds, the appeal and practicality of internet-based television has risen dramatically over the past decade. Bypassing satellite broadcasting, web TV allows broadcasters to reach just as big an audience with a much smaller budget. The compact size and competitive price of Yamaha’s CL1 makes it the ideal digital mixing console for this broadcast medium… especially for a very small mobile facility like nobeo GmbH’s @-car.
While live streaming web TV has democratised broadcasting to the extent that small-scale concerns can now have a very large audience, national and international broadcasters have also adopted online broadcasting very quickly. Cologne-based nobeo GmbH is one of Germany’s major TV service providers for studio, outdoor and post production. As well as a 45,000m2 lot housing seven studios, the company specialises in outside broadcast and web TV facilities. A recent addition has been the @-car - a powerful mobile production unit for web TV, housed in a compact Volkswagen T5 Multivan.
The distinctive orange vehicle is kitted out with the highest quality production and streaming technology. The vehicle’s technical concept and integration was carried out by Munich-based Sono Studiotechnik, one of Yamaha’s key German Commercial Audio partners. They chose a Yamaha CL1 for it’s combination of a very small footprint, but ability to deliver optimum audio quality and flexibility. Also included is equipment allowing direction for up to six cameras, a graphics system integrated into the vision mixer and optional file-based recording/playback. Three workstations for completely live operation of the vehicle are included.
In addition to web TV, the vehicle’s technical specification means it can be used to digitally broadcast sporting events, press conferences, trade fairs and other occasions via high-performance, IP-based satellite uplink. Individually-edited streams can be broadcast on large format screens, monitors, tablets and other mobile devices, while programmes can be recorded in the vehicle for subsequent editing and broadcast, or production as HD video.
Already a fixture of live and recorded shows produced for online web TV portal MyVideo.de, @-car is successfully adding a completely new aspect to nobeo’s production portfolio.
“It’s fantastic that we are taking this step into the internet world and I’m delighted we’ve acquired an innovative vehicle, capable of covering most applications in the web TV sector,” says Markus Masuhr, head of nobeo’s audio division. “The CL1 fits the @-car internal network perfectly, delivering very high performance despite it’s small size. It also means that @-car can be used for concert productions, including multitrack recording, no problem!”
