Yamaha Introduces Ri8-D Input Rack and Ro8-D Output Rack units.
Compact 1U enclosures for enhanced Dante system design flexibility
January 7, 2013. Shizuoka, Japan – The Yamaha professional audio division is pleased to announce the release of new Ri8-D Input Rack and Ro8-D Output Rack units.
Ever since the first Yamaha digital mixer, the DMP7, was released in 1987, Yamaha has maintained a leading role in establishing digital mixers as primary tools for a variety of sound applications. The CL Series digital consoles, released in March 2012, marked the 25th anniversary of Yamaha digital mixer production with momentous advances in sound quality, operability, versatility, and reliability that have already defined a new era in digital mixer performance for live sound.
The upcoming Ri8-D and Ro8-D input and output racks use the same Dante audio network protocol as the CL series, providing new options for flexible system design and implementation. While maintaining the excellent sound quality of the CL series consoles as well as the Rio3224-D and Rio1608-D I/O racks, the Ri8-D and Ro8-D are offered as space-saving 1U size rack mount units that allow greater freedom for installation and I/O distribution.
“Our goal in developing the Ri8-D and Ro8-D was to deliver the same level of sound quality as the CL Series, with even greater system setup and installation flexibility with Dante,“ explains Kazunori Kobayashi, general manager of the Yamaha Corporation pro audio division. “Whether used as portable input racks, or as output racks in an amp room, we’re confident that these versatile units will give our customers the capability to optimally support systems of just about any size and scale.”
Main Features
1. Compact 1U size for enhanced Dante system flexibility.
Both sound quality and system layout flexibility were enhanced in the CL series by separating I/O hardware from the mixing console itself. The Ri8-D and Ro8-D take that freedom a step further, from “I/O racks where you need them” to “the number of inputs and outputs you need, wherever you need them”.
2. Support not only for the CL series, but other Dante devices as well.
CL Series components are not the only Yamaha professional audio devices that will work with the Ri8-D and Ro8-D. With the Dante-MY16-AUD Mini-YGDAI card from Audinate installed, the M7CL, LS9, DME64N, and other compatible Yamaha pro audio gear can be used with the Ri8-D and Ro8-D in capable and robust Dante network systems. The Ri8-D head amplifiers can even be controlled directly from the interface of the M7CL, LS9, or other compatible console.
3. Natural, musical sound that brings out the best in any console.
The “natural, musical sound” that was a key element of the CL Series design policy is carried on without compromise in the Ri8-D and Ro8-D. Mechanical construction, circuit board layout, power supply, grounding, and parts selection have all been executed with meticulous attention to detail and quality, combined with exhaustive performance and listening tests at each stage of development. The result is eminently natural, musical sound.
4. Two models: one dedicated to input, and one to output.
With the input-only Ri8-D and output-only Ro8-D it becomes possible to place inputs where you only need inputs and outputs where you only need outputs, or any combination required for the application. Of course the Ri8-D and Ro8-D can be used in combination with the Rio3224-D and Rio1608-D I/O racks as well.
