Classical Guitar Course

LET US DEVELOP THE GUITARIST IN YOU!

Master the classical guitar techniques with Yamaha's original curriculum and course materials. YGC students develop Guitar playing techniques as well as singing, music reading, improvising and creating music. They also learn music fundamentals such as: notes and chord reading, ear training, solo and ensemble playing by playing pieces of various styles.

Our qualified teachers will guide you through a structured study of classical guitar repertoire, designed for beginner to advanced level students. They will also prepare you for the Yamaha Guitar Grade Exams.

To experience a more musical and fun lesson, MIDI accompaniment data is available in classrooms. Audio materials are also provided with the textbooks, which include performances of repertoire pieces and exercises for students to refer to and practice at home.

Yamaha Classical Guitar Levels of Examination

YGC course prepares students to take Yamaha Guitar Grade Examination, which is an internationally recognized examination system, enables everyone who is learning music to improve his/her musical skills in a well-planned manner while verifying their musical ability, starting from the very beginners, as an essential step for motivation and establishment of a solid musical foundation.

The YGC textbooks are in 6 volumes, with each volume equal to one grade, so that students can feel the easy step-by-step progression when moving from textbook to textbook.

* Examinations are recommended but not mandatory.
* Chapter 1 of Volume 1 = Grade 13
* Chapter 2 of Volume 1 = Grade 12
(Grades 13 & 12 are considered optional)

ACOUSTIC GUITAR

Yamaha's curriculum and qualified teachers will guide you through an exciting musical journey from the basics of the acoustic guitar to high standard of performances as well as fundamental aspects such as sound production, proper posture and other techniques.

Chord exercise sample

By using the chords presented in the lessons, students will experience chord progressions that are commonly used in popular pieces, which will deepen their understanding of chords and improve performance technique naturally.

Strumming exercise sample

As the textbooks progress, the note length, time signature, and rhythm will develop. Students will be improving the technical element of strumming in a fun way.

ELECTRIC GUITAR

The electric guitar is one of the most used instruments in Rock, Blues, Funk, Pop and Latin music. Join well structured course and master step by step Electric Guitar techniques while learning broad repertoire of various styles.

Through the exercises, students will learn the chord forms, position, and how to hold the chords step by step.

Rock Guitar Phrases and Riffs sample

Students will master basic Rock guitar playing techniques as well as Hammering On and Bend progressively.

UKULELE

The ukulele is one of the popular, most melodic instrument and one of the easiest to carry and learn to play in different styles of music in a fun and easy way.

Students will establish their understanding of chords, left and right hand form strumming technique.

Melody exercise sample

The aim of the subject is to establish the right hand form while playing the melody, and the movement of the fingers on the left hand.

Our instruction is based around original curriculum and teaching materials we’ve developed through more than 60-years’ experience. We also offer realistic audio accompaniment developed exclusively for our lessons that you can play along with, like in live performances, and for home practice.

Our lesson formats are tailored to the course, from group lessons* where you can relax with your fellow students having the same interests and enjoy ensemble playing, as well as individual lessons that progress according to your personal wishes and goals, and online lessons where you can receive instruction without going to the lesson venue (suitable online environment required). * Group lessons are held with an appropriately small number of students.
