What type of speakers should be used for in-store music?
Two types of speakers, in-ceiling speakers and surface-mount speakers, which are mounted onto the wall or ceiling, are typically used to maximize the effectiveness of stores and other commercial spaces or service spaces. It is difficult to install residential speakers in a manner that satisfies commercial requirements. In general, in-ceiling speakers are used to make the presence of speakers less noticeable, and surface-mount speakers are used for sites with no ceiling panels or to make the speakers a more prominent part of the interior design. For stores with low ceilings, we recommend using surface-mount speakers, which are easier to aim at specific areas targeted for delivering sound. For stores with high ceilings, pendant type speakers, which are hung down from the ceiling, may also be suitable. When selecting speakers, also consider installation site restrictions, for example, and models that satisfy your own design preferences or building requirements.
Yamaha offers an online tool called “YIMSA” that can offer advice on music systems. Users can receive recommendations on speaker models and quantities just by entering a few key parameters. Please try it.
